THE BEACON “the little church
with the big heart” March, 2010
“Genda’s
Agenda” There’s an old story told of the minister who, when called away from his church just before the Sunday service, asked his associate to preach the sermon in his absence. Upon the minister’s return, he
asked his wife about the young preacher’s message. His wife replied, “It was
the worst sermon I have ever heard!” Hearing that, the minister later sought
out the associate asking his take on the Sunday message. The man replied, “It
went well. Actually, I didn’t have time to prepare a message, so I just used
one of yours.” Two different persons – two different perspectives, reminding us that sometimes things aren’t exactly as they appear to be. So often in life we find this to be true. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. What one individual views one way, another person views it another way. That’s the way of life. We have all been endowed by God with the ability to think and reason independently, offering our own perspectives, viewpoints, etc., in life. Indeed, we have individual autonomy which allows us to voice personal opinions. And, as a result, sometimes we use this unique gift wisely, and, unfortunately; Sometimes we do not. Yet for all of our individual attitudes and actions in life, we are also blessed by a God who looks down upon us as unique persons, sees all of us the same – as his children ALL created in his image. While the Lord may well have opinions and viewpoints about each of us, the important thing is that he still loves us all equally. And he proved this love as he sent His Son into the world to die for each and everyone of us in his creation. What a gift we have been given by God. As we approach Holy Week, and are reminded of God’s gift to us through Christ, so let us remember that for all of our individual opinions and viewpoints, all of our agreements and disagreements in life, we are blessed by a creator who holds all of us the same in his hand. And for that we are all in agreement. In His Love, Pastor Bill

great success. NC Regional Assembly Disciples
of Christ regional assembly will be held April 16 – 18, 2010 in Farewell to Our Snowbirds This
month we sadly say goodbye to our winter visitors who richly bless our
congregation during their brief time with us. We pray for safe travel back to
your homes and trust GOD will bring you back to us next winter. We will miss
you. Carol’s Corner Pastor Bill’s sermon last Sunday reminded us that some situations we view as disasters can become blessings. As in so many of his wonderful sermons, I feel that he is speaking especially to me, touching my heart, and telling me exactly what I need to hear. A
family situation that I first thought to be terrible truly turned out to be a
blessing ……..one which enabled me to experience tremendous spiritual growth and
support from my church family for which I am grateful to GOD. CHRISTIAN HUMOR A
man dies and meets Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates. Peter says to the man,
“Here’s how it works. You need to have 100 points to get into heaven. You tell
me about all of the good things that you have done. They are all worth a
certain number of points. If your total is 100 or more, you can come on in.”
“Well,”
says the man. “I was happily married to the same woman for over 52 years. I was
attentive, faithful, and loved her dearly.” “That
is great,” says Saint Peter. “That will be two points.” “Hmmm,” says the man. “This is going to be harder than I thought. Well,
I attended church regularly, volunteered my time and tithed.” “Wonderful,”
says Saint Peter, “That’s worth another point.” “One
point!” says the man. “At this rate, it’ll be by the grace of GOD that I’ll
ever get into heaven!” “Bingo!” says Saint Peter. “That’s 100 points! Please come on in!”
A Christian woman parked her car in a no-parking zone in a city because she was short of time and couldn’t find a space with a meter. So she put a note under her windshield wiper that read: “I have circled the block 100 times. If I don’t park here, I’ll miss my appointment. FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES.” When she returned, she found a citation along with this note. “I’ve circled this block for 10 years. If I don’t give you a ticket, I’ll lose my job. LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION.” |
